Lago di Saoseo is so beautiful in every season that it’s worth hiking here. The lake is very accessible as it is located near the border with Italy and is suitable for a day trip.

Located in Val di Campo, Poschiavo, you have to cover about 5 km from the road to the lake. There are several paths through the forest, a gravel road for cars and buses, you choose which option you like best.

The attraction of this place is represented by the cobalt blue waters of Lago di Saoseo and the transparency of the water. You can easily see stones and large tree stumps on the lake bottom. And everything is in contrast to the green of the forest in summer, the colors of autumn, or the white of winter. Also impressive is that the mountain and the forest are reflected in the waters of Lago di Saoseo.

How to get to Lago di Saoseo?

The first step is to reach the Sfazu bus station. You can get there by car or by bus. Bus number 701 departs from Poschiavo station towards Samedan and takes about 14 minutes.

Alternatively, you can take the Bernina Express train for stunning panoramic views and get off at Ospizio Bernina station. You climb 290 m to the Ospizio Bernina Albergo bus station from where you take the bus to the Sfazu station. This is the last point where the train station is close to the road. From here the two separate, reuniting in Poschiavo.

The lake is located at an altitude of 2028 m. Nearby you will find the Saoseo Hut where you can sit in the sun on the terrace and enjoy the menu that inspires you. If you want, you can stay here. Prices start from 40 chf/night/person or 77 chf/person with half board included.
